Try Counting has not launched. The extension arrives October 1st, 2026, and until then this site is a preview: the newsletter field and most of its buttons are placeholders that record nothing at all.
Creating an account is the exception, and it is active right now to help us test. It stores your name and email address, encrypted, along with the timezone your browser reports. When a sign-in is one we cannot vouch for — a device you have not signed in from before, a new way to sign in being added to your account, or any sign-in that did not come from a code we emailed you — we send an alert showing roughly where it came from and which browser it used. That location is approximate: the city, region, and country worked out from your IP address, never a street address. We store it, encrypted, against the session and the device it belongs to, so you can recognize your own sign-ins later; it is also printed in the alert, so a copy lives in your mailbox and with Resend, the service that delivers our mail. Every account made before launch will be deleted on October 1st, 2026, so you will need to sign up once more when the extension is published.
Recognizing a device is the reason for the one cookie we set that outlives signing out. It is a random value with no meaning outside our own database — it holds nothing about you and nothing about your browsing — and it exists so that we can tell a browser you have used before from one we have never seen, which is what makes a sign-in alert worth reading. It is set only after you sign in, and it expires after 400 days.
